If you have read my Scentsy Story you know this business has changed mine and my families lives forever. Even from the early days it was so much more than warmers and wax, it was a car payment, or the ability to stay at home with my 2- and 4-year-old, it was Panda Express drive thru or a Christmas done without credit cards and even something as small as a gift for my husband without using his income. Every step of the way it has fit in and filled gaps in our lives, guiding us to what's next whether it be a vacation or club soccer for our daughter a way to make ends meet or serve and help others. Scentsy has been the vehicle that takes us literally anywhere we choose. As long as I invest in my business without fail, with perseverance and grit in the busy season and in the slow Scentsy is constant. It provides more than we could have ever dreamed.
As our son Shane's high school graduation came and went with May of 2023, my Scentsy business will again help us fill a gap in our lives provide where there is a need. I'm going to need your support though! Some of you know Shane and have followed his story for years but for those who don't let me give you a long story short. Shane is diagnosed with severe autism. He is capable of so many things but at the same time he isn't capable of just as many. He cannot care for himself, make food or take care of his hygienic needs, he doesn't put himself to bed or monitor his own safety, he doesn't drive (except for his new golf cart when we help him steer) and he isn't yet capable of a independent job or even close to moving out on his own and probably never will be.
He is currently attending summer school half a day 4 days a week and will begin half day transition programs in the fall through the local school district where he will continue to learn daily living adult skills and job training.
Shane needs more to his day than 4 hours of training or school, he is a busy 18-year-old with thoughts and a very busy brain, boredom comes quickly and breeds frustration. If left without a schedule or tasks he will spend as many hours as allowed staring at his iPad videos and being in solitude with music or tv. The longer he watches the further his attitude deteriorates and the more he wants to disconnect from us and the world. Without a full day of school this fall I am determined to give him a couple hours or more each day of meaningful work. I am determined that he is not pushed aside deemed incapable of fulfilling a purpose!
I have pondered over this looming predicament for years, coming up with multiple businesses that Shane could run with assistance and contemplating how Mike (my husband) and I would be able to squeeze in the hours to help him run a business along with my current business and Mikes full time job. Then it dawned on me! Why would I begin a new business when Shane loves Scentsy, and I can help him become a part of what I already do! A big giant scary YAY and here we GO!
Here's what Shane will be taking on beginning even this month and what I pray the future looks like... I currently have a few Scentsy Club subscribers (these customers have subscribed to Scentsy each month, every other or even every third month) Shane will be taking over *with assistance the Club Appreciation piece of my Scentsy business. So those who subscribe to Scentsy Club with me as their consultant will be supporting Shane, giving him purpose and tasks to fill his days.
I will help him write his name on thank you cards, stuff envelopes and packages and thank you mail for your support. Shane loves mail taking packages to the post office, choosing what to send and general guided activity. He loves celebration and enjoys being a part of most any task. The BIG dream is that our subscriber list is so big that we could recruit the help of Shane's graduating friends. That this small thing fills Shane's days, and he learns to complete new tasks on his own. Building his capability and filling his days with purpose. Special needs or not that's what we all need right? Purpose, to give more to this world than we take away. I am excited for this new piece of our Scentsy journey and cannot wait to see you support Shane in big ways like I know you will!
